We have briefly seen the effect of asanas on our body and mind. Our total personality is influenced by our actions. Hence, if we want to stay healthy, then practicing yoga asanas is essential. Patanjali has wisely stated, "Sthira Sukham Asanam," which means stability and a feeling of well-being are the true results of asanas. This sutra also implies that a posture that is both comfortable and stable is considered an asana. If this is the definition, then simply lying down may seem comfortable, but can it truly be called an asana?
This fundamental question leads us to understand that merely adopting a posture does not make it an asana. Maharshi Patanjali has beautifully explained that while performing asanas, effort should be minimal. The mind should remain steady, focusing on the infinite or on our breath to reduce tension.
